Winery Focused on Private Club Needs
Flora Springs introduces "Flora Springs for Private Clubs"
Shares Napa Valley's finest wines and gracious lifestyle with members
|
| For more than 27 years, the wines of Flora Springs have been respected and enjoyed by discerning wine buyers, the world
over. Thus, it should come as no surprise that members of private clubs constitute a large percentage of Flora Springs' fan
base. Private club members have long appreciated the elegant, complex wines from the Napa Valley estate vineyards and are now
being rewarded for their devotion and good taste. |
| John Komes, the owner of Flora Springs, is debuting "Flora Springs for Private Clubs" - a unique program that will
offer Flora Springs' best wines, and a little of the lifestyle that goes along with them, to private club members, exclusively.
|
| "We don't take our customers for granted, especially those who have been loyal to us over the past 27 years," John
explains. "This special program, with all its offerings and added value, is just our way of sharing the 'fruits of our labor'
with those who will appreciate it the most. It's a simple extension of our lifestyle here in Napa Valley." |
| "Flora Springs for Private Clubs" makes it simple for private clubs to host wine dinners and tastings, led by John,
winemaker Ken Deis, or other winery personnel. And it allows members to buy current and past vintages of Trilogy and the
single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignons (including large-format bottles signed by John Komes and Ken Deis). Current vintages of
Flora Springs' other wines, including a 25th Anniversary Cabernet Sauvignon 2002, are being released this year, as well as red
and white Club Selection wines, which have been specially created for Flora Springs' private club program. |
| Club members taking part in the program will also have V.I.P. access to the winery for tours and special events, and
will enjoy "members-only" rates at Rancho Caymus Inn - the celebrated Napa-style lodging in the nearby town of Rutherford, and the
Inn At Eagle Mountain - a premier resort near Scottsdale, Ariz. The Komes family owns both. |
| The family has owned Flora Springs since 1978 when Jerry and Flora Komes bought the old, historic Martini wine family
homestead as an ideal retirement location. But even the most well intended plans are subject to change. When the Komes' son
John and his wife, and daughter Julie and her husband, convinced their parents to let them start planting vines and making
wine, the "simple" retirement project quickly took on a life of its own. By 1980 the Komes family had hired Ken Deis from the
Joseph Heitz Winery to mastermind the winemaking chores at Flora Springs. Ken celebrates his 25th year with Flora Springs in
2005. |
| Today, the still family-owned winery boasts 1,100 acres, over 600 of which are vine-covered and producing grapes. At
10 locations throughout Napa Valley, the Flora Springs vineyards represent some of the finest soil in the region and the unique
"terroir" of each vineyard expresses itself in the wines specially created to bring out the best qualities of each grape's
origins. According to John Komes "our philosophy of winemaking is simple - great grapes make great wines." |
| While Flora Springs' first success was with the Chardonnay grape, the winery is best known today for Trilogy. One of
the first California Meritage wines, it is a blend of estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and at times,
Malbec, which is a multiple award-winner. The winery celebrated the 20th anniversary of Trilogy's first vintage in 2004. |
| Flora Springs also produces a line of varietal reds, including four highly praised single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignons
that are produced in very limited quantities. Their unique names include Wild Boar, Out of Sight and Holy Smoke. The flagship
Rutherford Hillside Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon (recently featured on the cover of Wine Enthusiast, with a 94 rating) comes
from an estate vineyard on the undulating hills next to the gracious stone home where Flora, the family matriarch and winery
namesake, still resides. |
| Flora Springs' white wines are led by the remarkable Soliloquy Sauvignon Blanc, with grapes coming from the family's
Crossroads Vineyards in Oakville and two Chardonnays: Barrel Fermented Chardonnay (that put Flora Springs on wine connoisseur's
radar) and the Select Cuvee Chardonnay. The first vintage of which scored 92 points in Wine Spectator. |
